The movies we can’t wait to see this year
Sam Rockwell stars in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die — Briarcliff Entertainment
With the Oscars fast approaching and awards season dominating right now, we wanted to share the upcoming films that we can’t wait to see this year.
2026 has already had some major releases with the likes of Wuthering Heights,Send Help, and Mercy but there are still so many good movies to be released in a mega year for cinema. Here’s our list of the 11 movies that we are most hyped to see… and log on Letterboxd.
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die
Sam Rockwell stars as a man from the future who takes hostages at a Los Angeles diner in an attempt to recruit unlikely heroes to help him save the world.
Gore Verbinski directs what promises to be a fun, apocalyptic sci-fi adventure — his first release in ten years. The film also stars Haley Lu Richardson (Five Feet Apart), Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), Zazie Beets (Joker, Deadpool 2) and Michael Peña (Ant-Man, The Martian, All Her Fault)
In cinemas right now.
How To Make A Killing
What would you do to inherit $28 billion?
Glen Powell returns to the big screen as Beckett Redfellow. Disowned at birth by his wealthy family, he will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way.
The A24 thriller/comedy is director John Patton Ford’s second film and also stars Margaret Qualley (The Substance) and Ed Harris (The Truman Show).
Releasing March 13th.
Project Hail Mary
Ryan Gosling is a science teacher on a mission to save the world. What more do you want?
Eighth-grade science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up on a spaceship with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory slowly returns, he soon discovers he must solve the riddle behind a mysterious substance that’s causing the sun to die out. As details of the mission unravel, he calls on his scientific training and sheer ingenuity — but he may not have to do it alone.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller direct.
New Ryan Gosling personality drops March 20th.
Disclosure Day
If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?
Continuing with the Sci-fi theme of 2026, one of the greatest sci-fi directors of all time brings us Disclosure Day. Steven Spielberg’s new film is all about what would happen if the whole world found out that aliens were real, and were here on earth with us.
An ensemble cast brings this eerie sci-fi thriller to life — Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place), Colin Firth (Love Actually), Josh O’Connor (Wake Up Dead Man), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Eve Hewson (The Perfect Couple) and Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*).
In cinemas June 12th.
Supergirl
Following on from the blockbuster success of Superman last summer, Supergirl will be the second film in James Gunn’s DCU.
The highly anticipated release will follow Kara Zoe-El’s story and darker origin before she finally made it to Earth. We saw a glimpse of her in the post-credits scene in Superman when she returned to pick up her dog Krypto, teasing her full debut on the big screen.
Despite playing Aquaman for seven years in the old DC movie franchise, Jason Momoa will play a new character this time around — Lobo an intergalactic bounty hunter.
Gunn did not direct this one, instead it was Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella, Lars and The Real Girl) who took the helm.
Releasing June 26th.
The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan brings us the highly anticipated ancient epic that follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he embarks on a perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
In most years this would certainly be the most stacked cast going, but there is a certain Marvel release in December that takes that title. Nevertheless, the cast includes: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Elliot Page, Robert Pattinson, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Himesh Patel, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, Travis Scott (yes, really), Corey Hawkins and Ryan Hurst.
Epic in every sense.
We cannot wait for July 17th.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Is the MCU back?
Following on from the success of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps last year, fans are hyped for the return of Spider-Man this summer.
Not a whole lot is known about the plot yet but we do know that Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are going to be joined by Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal — who plays The Punisher. The last Spider-Man movie left things uncertain after the whole world forgot who Peter Parker was. It will be interesting to see what direction Marvel goes as they head towards their biggest release since Avengers: Endgame with Avengers: Doomsday in December.
Spider-Man will be back on the big screen July 31st.
Digger
The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he’s humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.
Academy Award winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant) brings us a dark comedy starring a dancing, shovel-weilding Tom Cruise as Digger Rockwell alongside Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me) and John Goodman (The Big Lebowski).
Releasing October 1st.
Street Fighter
The latest live-action adaptation of arguably the greatest fighter game series of all time hits the big screen later this year.
Estranged street fighters Ryu and Ken Masters get thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament — a brutal clash of fists, fate and fury. However, behind the battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons from their past.
Another ensemble cast with big names from Hollywood and beyond including Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and 50 Cent.
Out on October 16th.
Madden
Nicolas Cage brings us the life and career of American football coach and commentator John Madden in the biopic Madden.
Cage is joined by Christian Bale who plays Al Davis. Both men look unrecognisable in early trailers for the film that follows Madden from his early beginnings as a coach to the 1976 Super Bowl, his career as a commentator and the video game franchise built on his name.
David O. Russell directs.
Out November 26th.
Avengers: Doomsday
The big one.
We touched on it earlier, but it really does feel like the MCU might be back after a few years out in the dark. Last year’s releases, on top of Deadpool & Wolverine and GOTG Vol. 3, have brought fans back. Interest is there, fans are actually hyped again.
Who's in it? Who’s not in it? RDJ returns to the MCU, this time playing the villain — Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. Chris Evans is back as Captain America. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor. Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Channing Tatum, Sebastian Stan, James Marsden, Joseph Quinn, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Anthony Mackie plus about a hundred other names you’d recognise — and that’s not even including the possible surprise appearances and cameos that will surely happen.
It promises to be a spectacular, popcorn blockbuster. They have our attention again, they need to deliver. With such a stacked cast and some of our favourite superheroes returning as well as the Russo Brothers coming back to direct their first MCU movie since Endgame, there are so many reasons to be excited.
On top of that, it is releasing one week before Christmas.
We are HYPED.
With so many movies coming out (so many we didn’t even mention) and so much promise, if even half of them match expectations, 2026 could go down as one of the greatest years in cinematic history.
